We need some creative ideas! We are in search of the perfect Christmas gift...and I can't wait to see what you suggest!!
Here's the situation:
This year, instead of exchanging toys/clothes/electronics, etc (you know...material things) with my sister-in-law and her family (Chad's sister, her husband, their 4 kids), we are doing something really cool. We have decided that both of our families will search for something that will benefit someone else in need. We will buy or send whatever is needed...and then when we celebrate Christmas with them, instead of opening our usual gifts, we will share what we did "in their name".
The kids are on board (well...Micah did not really get to vote...we are assuming he approves of the idea!) and the search is on.
Sooooooo....we are looking for the "perfect gift" to give away. Some ideas we have gathered so far include: sending a goat to Kenya, immunizing a child in Africa, sponsoring a needy family in our community, donating to a specific need for Hannah's Hope in Guatemala, buying toys for community toy drive...
Now, this is where YOU come in!! Please help...we are anxious to see what other ideas are out there. Think on it...and let me know!

You know I was touched by he AGCI latest e-journal about the HH they are setting up in Ethiopia.

I really like this idea too! And if we were doing it this year we would get a trampoline for the older children at HH Guatemala. Carlos loved the trampoline when he lived there and Ashley had to take it down for safety reasons (it was just worn out!!). Anyway, just my two cents worth.
I remember bouncing on that trampoline for a LONG time with the older girls. We had a blast- I am sure that they miss it so much!
I like this idea too...we have done similar things in the past. However, one recommended caution is to be as familiar as possible with the recipient organization. Since living here in Thailand, we have become more aware of how that "item purchased" or "money sent" just doesn't always quite make it to where you want it to go. Don't want to rain on the party, but wanted you to know the reality of how things work sometimes. Also, for example, a lot of child sponsership organizations will take up to 40% of what is donated just to cover admin costs, or the organizations aren't always run as forthright or ethical on the foreign country end of things as we were led to believe...so the more directly involved you are with the end result/connection, the better off you will be in making an impact within your choosing.
