That's what I keep thinking. It is no wonder we have struggles, frustrations, disappointments, insecurities, etc, in this world. We are aliens. Aliens...strangers...foreigners... living in a world that is not our home. That is what the Bible says, and I believe it.
Don't get me wrong. God created some beautiful things for THIS world. Just look around....the colorful leaves, amazing sunsets, etc. And all that is nothing compared to the blessings of family and friends! But, when I think of what I have to look forward to...a perfect body, perfect relationships, and eternity with my perfect Lord and Savior...I can't help but yearn for my real home.
These thoughts are not new to me. I have thought this way for as long as I can remember...and I have always loved songs like "Elijah" (Rich Mullins), "One of These Days" (FFH) and "I Can Only Imagine" (Mercy Me) that talk about that glorious day when I will see my Savior face to face.
Recently, I was listening to Aaron Shust's CD "Anything Worth Saying" and I fell in love with the last song on the album..."One Day". Oh how I wish I could sing it for you now! But, you will have to settle for the lyrics of the chorus (but, if you ever get the chance to hear the entire song, I just know you will enjoy it, too!)
More on this topic later...
We will gather at the Crystal Throne
All these years; we're finally home
I can actually see His face
And all I can do is say,
Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty
Who was and is and is to come,
We lay our crowns before You
Every heart and soul adore You
The God of gods, Almighty One
All these years; we're finally home
I can actually see His face
And all I can do is say,
Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty
Who was and is and is to come,
We lay our crowns before You
Every heart and soul adore You
The God of gods, Almighty One
More on this topic later, I am sure!

Have you ever heard of that song by Roby Duke called I Shall See God? Oh, it is good. Here are the lyrics I looked up for you:
It's almost as if someone is standing there
And I don't know what I'd give
to see the face that seems to stare
All my life I'd give to know His ways
But, just how much I know, I'm no fool I dare not say
As I go in the way of the earth
As I step through the door
There where time is no more
I shall see God
Older, much older now, I still believe
That when all else is gone the Rock of Ages cleft for me
Holding something I can't feel or see
I'll tarry 'til the day I hear the music of the free
As I go in the way of the earth
As I step through the door
There where time is no more
I shall see
Perfect peace, perfect love
Finally I'll face the beginning
As I go
As I go in the way of the earth
As I step through the door
There where time is no more
I shall see God
I shall see Him
I shall see Him
It's a good one! And yes, I realize that ages me. (Or Mark, since he introduced it to me...) Whatever. GREAT SONG.

Before moving to Austin I didn't think about this as much! Living here, away from our sheltered life in the mid-west, I've seen more that enough to make me long for the day I will meet Christ! Christians are hard to come by here. What a daily struggle it is to keep me and my family from falling into the trap of this enticing world! I'm with you on this one girl!
I'm doing a study now on Daniel, by Beth Moore and she has a song on the video called "Your Word is Life to Me"...
I am a stranger in this place;
this world is not my home.
I want more than it can give.
I am a desert needing rain;
I'm thirsty for your voice.
The very reason that I live--
You are the Word, my one desire,
An all consuming holy fire,
The very breath that I am longing for. My heart is desperate for Your ways.
Refine me in your holy blaze, if that is what it takes to know you more.
